First Reconciliation

“Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”
John 20: 23

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation

Children of the parish celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for their First Eucharist.  Preparation begins in grade one, building on the family’s foundation of faith, through attendance at a Catholic school or enrollment in the parish Religious Education Program.

The parish preparation program for First Reconciliation recognizes the place of parents as the primary catechist of their child. Therefore, the immediate sacrament preparation takes place in the home by the parents, in coordination with the Parish Catechetical Office (PCO).

Immediate sacrament preparation includes:

  • Attending Mass each weekend.
  • A parent information meeting, usually held in October or November.
  • Participation in a parent-child retreat, usually held in January or February.

Celebration of the sacrament of First Reconciliation takes place during a Saturday liturgy, usually in February or March.  Family members are invited to attend.
