Lectors

Proclaiming the Word of God during the Mass is an important part of the liturgical celebration. “The Word and the liturgy do not simply exist side by side. There is an “inner connection.” This inner connection is enhanced by the lector who brings the Word of God to fellow parishioners. Lectors must have received the sacrament of Confirmation. Public speaking experience is a plus but not required. Training sessions are given so lectors can increase their knowledge of the scriptures, discuss techniques, and build their confidence about speaking at Mass. Lectors are assigned a specific Mass time and are scheduled to lector about once every 5-6 weeks. When personal conflicts prevent a lector from attending a particular Mass, other lectors assigned to that particular Mass time can be contacted to help. All are invited to consider using their voice as God’s instrument for good by becoming a lector in Our Lady of Peace Parish.
