The Weekly Sandwich Ministry began the first week of Covid lockdowns in 2020. The Director of St John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark, requested a sandwich drive as most of the volunteers were retired and were shut down at home due to the pandemic. A small group started meeting Mondays at OLP and started collecting and making sandwiches for St. Johns. The ministry now serves 6 charitable organizations that feed the poor and homeless. In 2024, we will surpass 300,000 Sandwiches. We also collect fresh fruit and snack bars for lunch bags. Monetary donations are also welcome please make your check out to OLP and write Weekly Sandwich Ministry in the memo bar. We meet between noon and 1:30 in the Parish Hall if you wish to drop off sandwiches, fresh fruit, snack bars or donations.
